Date 1916 Hand Made Ruby & Diamond Engagement Ring

Beautifully appointed with an array of hot pink Verneuil Rubies accented by sparkly antique Diamonds, this old Victorian engagement ring is a most romantic find! An especially lovely example of the 'boat' shaped carved half-hoop ring which was immensely popular in the latter 19th century and into the 1920's, all was fashioned with skill and care to show off the trio of Rubies which are nicely hand faceted in the old way and accented by small gorgeous hand cut 'old mine' style Diamonds; each its own unique personality and glitter determined by the quirkiness of the individual facets to the stone as they are cut in sympathy with the original crystalline shaping.

They were grown from a Corundum crystal by the flame fusion process which enabled the growing of top quality gemstones rivalling those seen in the old mines which had become depleted. 

All hand made, there are tiny touches in the beautiful hand carved setting, inspired by the Arts and Crafts Movement who took their ideas from the natural world, imagine perhaps an arrangement of bowed branches holding the gemstones.... low and shaped to the finger, with a familiar feel upon the hand. Very special and all entirely ethical as it is 100% recycled, jewellery just isn't hand crafted in this way commonly today!
