A most lovely antique Edwardian 9ct Gold pendant in the Art Nouveau style. A scarce find, the pretty design is one which was very fashionable at the time and romantically based on a naturalistic theme. Hand crafted in gently coloured 9ct Gold by a skilled jeweller it is set with Peridot, Amethyst and a wild Sea Pearl. Purple, White & Green are the colours which are associated with the Suffragette movement and the WSPU (Women's Social and Political Union). The concept of the colours was devised by Emmeline Pethick-Lawrence, the co-editor of Votes for Women magazine. Purple stood for loyalty and dignity, White for purity and Green for hope. On its original decorative 18 inch Gold chain, the pendant measures just under 2 inches including the bale.
