Circa 1880's, a pair of skilfully crafted 18ct Gold Cannetille drop earrings in really wonderful condition and showing pear-cut Amethysts below tiny bright lime Green Demantoid Garnets and Wild Seed Pearls. Demantoid, the green Andradite Garnet, was discovered in the Central Ural Mountains of Russia in around 1878 and quickly became very fashionable so we would date the earrings to after this event. Tiny coils and twists of Gold wire as seen in the ancient art of Cannetille had been rediscovered after the discovery of jewels in tombs in Italy in the late 18th and earlier 19th century and it was tremendously admired.
They measure 3.5cm from the top of the wires (which are a replacement to the old fittings).
