A desirable antique Victorian double row untreated Coral necklace. A classic piece which adds a feel of antiquity to your look when contrasted against more modern necklaces. This necklace dates from the 'Grand Tour' era, a time when well-to-do travellers would visit the famous sites in Italy, immersing themselves in Roman mythology and history, buying mementos of their experience to wear when back home.
Peachy hued, the bouton shaped beads of hand carved Coral (we believe they are the Sciacca type of Corallium Rubrum found in Sicily) are graduated in size (the shortest length is 17 inches which lays just around the base of the the neck), the largest bead measuring 6mm in diameter. We have had this necklace re-threaded and knotted very neatly between each bead. The clasp is the original hand made gold cased tongue clasp, which is hand engraved with the initial 'EJM' amid scrolled decoration. Read our BLOG article on Coral here.
