Georgian Date 1833 Sentimental Scottish Citrine and Pearl Brooch

{{ON HOLD}} Item #041168 {{ON HOLD}}

A wonderful quality William IV era brooch or lace pin, set with a warm whisky hued hand cut Scottish Citrine surrounded by natural Pearls. Dedicated on the reverse to 'W Murray Esq Obt 14th April 1833', we have done  a little research and found that William Murray born 16th March 1748 in Minningaff, Stewardry of Kirkcudbrightshire in Scotland didn't marry; lived some time in Toronto, Canada and died aged 83 years whilst living in Bath. He left £5000 in his will to be 'applied for the benefit of the poor of Miningaff', and the same sum to the Bath Hospital. He sounds a nice gentleman.

Holding a piece of sentimental jewellery such as this evokes such feeling.. it has been cared for by at least three different owners and survived through massive historical changes.

For scale, 22 by 16mms, and fastens with its original 'C' clasp.
