Miniature Georgian Cut Steel Cross Trinket

Item #3246

A teeny piece of English history. Cut Steel jewellery and 'toys' ie. watch chains, buckles and buttons were made in the steel towns of Oxfordshire, Wolverhampton and Birmingham from steel nails. The miniature artistry is quite mind bogglingly wonderful as each of the thirty four tiny steel rivets which make up the dark glitter of this small cross is a unique entity filed by hand and hand riveted onto the backing which itself is cut by hand. We know that this is one of the early Georgian pieces because of the quality of the workmanship and the combination of two different shapes. It would have most likely once been part of a larger creation but we are totally in love with it's diminutive sweetness, both pure and strong. If you'd like to know more about the industry read our blog article.

We have paired this dinky delight with a darkly oxidised sterling silver rope chain measuring 20 inches but it would contrast quite beautifully with yellow gold. The cross itself measures 1.5cm
