Renaissance Style Austro Hungarian Lapis, Garnet & Pearl Pendant

An incredible antique filigree pendant in the Renaissance style, consisting of a delicate floral lacework of Silver set with two cabochon Lapis and studded with a sprinkle of faceted pinky Almandine Garnets, which catch the light soo beautifully. Circa 1870's, this is a piece far superior to many that you will see from the period, being entirely hand pierced (each tiny curlicue has been skilfully cut by hand). The florid shape is a romantic dream, with a graceful movement when worn, accentuated by the three wild Freshwater Pearls which dangle from the structure (these Mussell Pearls from the species Margaritifera Margaritifera would have been found in streams throughout Europe). We believe this jewel originated in Austro Hungaria (probably Budapest where there were many workshops and a great deal of expertise in creating this style of jewellery).

The pendant measures 6cm from the top of the bale and 3.5cm across. ... and hangs from a double 17 inch Silver Belcher chain.
