A beautifully shaped, ornamented and detailed pair of Victorian era Pique drop Earrings.
Circa 1870's, the fine technique used to create this ornamentation is called 'Pique Pose' and is one in which an inlay of fine strips and wires of Gold and Silver is pressed into the warmed Tortoiseshell or Horn to create strikingly beautiful and intricate designs. Of course this type of jewellery is no longer made as the Turtles are protected, but it is collected widely. These are in lovely condition with no losses and are decorated to both back and front.
Materials: Tortoiseshell or Horn, Silver and Gold with base metal earwires
Measurements: 5cm from the wires to the tip, and articulated for a beautiful movement when worn
