Circa 1880 and in the distinctive Aesthetic Revival style, this lovely creation takes its inspiration from historic Japanese artifacts shown at exhibitions at the time and which were interpreted by artisan jewellers to fashion items such as this for the fashionable cognoscenti.
In a slightly matted gilded Silver with applique beaded design in silver to the edges, and hand engraved Japonaise motifs including Daffodils (symbolising renewal and good fortune) and a Butterfly. A really lovely and very special gift which retains both original frames to keep your keepsakes safe....
In pristine condition, this is a heavy piece and is of supremely lovely quality, every aspect being carefully and imaginatively crafted by an artisan jeweller. It is paired with its original reeded belcher link chain and together they create a real statement!
Metal: Silver lightly gilded with high carat Gold. Hallmarked at the Birmingham Assay Office in 1880. Maker's marks 'P&P'.
Measurements: the locket measures 3.5cm by 12mm. The chain 17 inches
