Heirloom Victorian Antique Archaeological Revival Locket

A scarce and wonderful find: deliciously exotic, this mid Victorian concoction is so full of delightful hand wrought details that the eye is completely fulfilled! In lovely 15ct gold, (a standard used solely in Britain between the years of 1854-1932) with a variety of super twisted wirework decoration it is further ornamented with juicy foil backed cabochon Garnets. Circa 1860's, and very fashionable at the time, the Etruscan Revivalist movement took inspiration from classical Greek and Etruscan objects which had been unearthed from tombs and featured intricate wire work and granulation. A harmony of design, the techniques used to craft these jewels were rediscovered and this all lead to a frenzy of creativity across the more well-to-do nations of the world. 

The locket section contains the original glass and is ready to show a precious photograph or picture. You'll notice the remains of a brooch fitting to the reverse. These had been removed when it came to us and it does make the locket flatter to wear than it would have been.

Stones: cabochon Pyrope Garnets

Metal: 15ct yellow Gold (tested but unmarked). Weighs 10 grams.

Measurements: The locket measurement is 3cm by 2.5cm.

In most cases the boxes are for display only but a nice quality modern reproduction box will accompany this piece.
