Dating to the latter 19th century, an Egyptian Scarab bead, a powerful talisman believed to protect the wearer and in ancient cultures represent rebirth and renewal. In ancient Egypt such jewellery was worn both the living and in the afterlife for adornment, power, and as amulets.
Hand formed of dark turquoisey green glazed faience to show the details of the beetle and mounted in 9ct yellow Gold it has the drilled hole for wearing as a bead which can just be seen to the 'top' where the Gold setting clasps inside, and quirky carving to the reverse.
It was likely bought by a tourist or enthusiast of Egyptalia.
The Scarab measures 1cm by 8mm.
