An intriguing and very distinctive vintage signet style American Opal and Black Onyx Doublet ring in the Art Deco fashion and made by the famous firm Belais of New York. As the firm folded in 1933 we can know that this piece was made prior to that date and most likely in the years 1920-1933 and it is indeed a most splendid example of the confident design aesthetic of the time. A fabulous unisex arrangement; the rainbowed Opal is backed onto sleek Black Onyx as a 'doublet' to accentuate the colours and framed by a fine rim of Black to contrast beautifully. Mounted in 10k White Gold which was the highest fashion at the time and the aspect that Belais are known for (Belais was the first manufacturer to patent the process for white gold in the US), there are additional details in the hand engraving to the setting and shoulders.
The inside band is marked with the maker's mark of "BELAIS" for Belais Brothers of New York. The ring size is a 'T' or '9.5' but could be altered a little to suit.
