Circa 1890's, an antique harem style double row gemstone ring set with an exquisite certificated Burmese Ruby, a lustrous natural Sea Pearl and antique hand cut Diamonds. Beautifully preserved, this was a very fashionable design at the time, popular amongst the well-to-do; inspired by Victorian England's romanticising of the Islamic world:
Commonly referred to as a “harem ring”, this design originated in Turkey where these multi-band rings were made to be given to brides and the ladies of the harem. The trend took off in Victorian England towards the end of the 19th century, and the design has remained popular ever since. Ravensbury Antiques.
As with all jewels there is a story behind them, and with this it is the decline of the Ottoman Empire and the increasing influence of Britain and other European countries in Turkish affairs.
All hand crafted with an eye to harmony and artistry, the balance of the whole is complete.
