A beautifully shaped, ornamented and detailed Victorian era Pique cross. Circa 1870's, the fine technique used to create this ornamentation is called 'Pique Pose' and is one in which an inlay of fine strips and coiled wires of Gold and Silver is pressed into the warmed Tortoiseshell to create strikingly beautiful and intricate designs. It is believed that pieces such as this were made in workshops based in the famous Birmingham Jewellery Quarter where may skilled jewellers were employed.
Of course this type of jewellery is no longer made as the Hawksbill Turtles are protected, but it is collected widely.
The cross has a good sized bale at the top to enable it to be attached to either a chain or a ribbon of your choice.
Measurements: measures 6cm x 4cm
