Circa 1860's, a pair of drama drenched antique Victorian earrings, each with a blood red droplet shaped cabochon of Pyrope Garnet which cleverly is backed onto foil for extra glow!
The design is an unusual one and follows the Mediaevalist Gothic Revival mood at the time, rich with meaning and looking to ecclesiastical design for inspiration. This was a time when folks of art and thought who could afford to wore more decorative jewels to express their interest and inclination.
Light and lovesome upon the ear, the ribbonesque repousse 15ct Gold is hand engraved and would have taken much skill to form. Best to be worn whilst poring over illuminated manuscripts in a velvet gown...
Metal: 15ct Gold (tested but not marked) the drops are of 9ct Gold and slightly lighter in colour so perhaps a later addition for a more impactful look.
They measure 4cm lengthwise from the top of the wires, which seem to be later replacements.
Please note these are of fine construction and not for everyday wear.
