Circa 1900, an adorable antique stick pin (or tie pin) often worn at the time on a cravat at the neck as a touch of individuality. The centre gemstone is a splendid Cat's Eye Chrysoberyl, with a marvellous 'chatoyance', a stone famed for it's curiosity. The gem became popular at the end of the 19th century when the Duke of Connaught gave a ring with a Cat's Eye as an engagement token; this was sufficient to increase its value greatly. Until that time, cat's eye had predominantly been present in gem and mineral collections.
This piece is mounted in mellow 9ct yellow Gold including the twisted pin and framed by tiny wild sea Pearls, also likely from the Indian continent.
Measures 7cm lengthwise. Read more about Stick Pins and their significance in this article by Sotheby's. We can provide a protective stopper to the pin end and present in a nice velvet case.
