Such a proud and rare find this antique Iberian foiled Almandine Garnet devotional cross is believed to be of Spanish origin. The shape is similar to that of the Victory Cross, the style dating back to the 10th century as the Crux Gemmata has a very important and old place in history and the Catholic religion.
In really splendid condition; crafted of Silver and studded with table cut Garnets mounted on foil, this antique devotional cross dates we believe to the 18th century. The flat topped pink Almandine Garnets have a captivatingly rich colour and warm glow from the foil placed beneath and are custom cut to snugly fit the setting which was entirely and skilfully hand crafted, with the back just as carefully finished. As such this would have been an important jewel and afforded only by the wealthy.
Measures 5cm by 3.5cm.
