With such a divine autumnal presence, this antique Georgian era brooch a russet layered Sardonyx (peek from the side view to see the darker layer underneath) and which could be hand carved with a significant emblem or crest. Mounted in a 15ct Gold frame, there are the most exquisite roses, ferns and shell like repousse details to the border; all in minute detail and delightfully crisply molded, this Gold over a wax inner.
Repousse involves hammering a malleable metal from the reverse side to create a raised, three-dimensional relief design on the front.
Circa 1820's or so this lovely little jewel captures perfectly the sweetness of symbolism: Roses for LOVE, Ferns for sincerity etc.
Use in place of a button, it fastens with a traditional 'C' clasp.
Measurements: one inch lengthwise
Metal: tests as at least 15ct Gold
