Circa 1880's, an antique Victorian era Sapphire and Diamond 'half hoop' design ring much beloved in the day; easy to wear and oft chosen as a betrothal ring.
Such an incredibly sparkly display; these five old hand cut gemstones date from the early to mid 19th century. Unique: the Sapphires a bright intensity and the Diamonds like trembling drops of water; the tiniest space between each cushion shaped stone, finely graduated in side to the edges of the finger. Each of the stones was cut from a single crystal in sympathy with the original earth borne beauty, plump in profile and oh, so captivating! The romantic drama of nature; the scintillation of the light which is refracted from the hand cut facets is magical, just imagine how these would originally have twinkled in candlelight!
The Sapphires themselves display an intense electric hue. And this lead us to have the centre stone certificated. It weighs 1.39ct and is certificated as natural, deep blue with no evidence of treatment with the origin as Balsatic (magmatic) from lava flows which brought the gems to the Earth's surface from deep within the mantle. We have also had the Sapphires all repolished by our clever lapidarist to remove slight abrasions to the top facets.
The finely crowned cathedralesque setting was made by hand and this rests upon the gently tapered 18ct yellow Gold band which flows smoothly to the back. All together wonderful and original choice as an engagement or anniversary ring, you'll never see another exactly the same.
The combined weight of the Sapphires we have measured at 2.20cts (conservatively judged with a Schindler gauge) and we judge the Diamonds in their setting at around .40ct each.

Metal: 18ct Yellow Gold (tested but unmarked)
Ring Size: Q or 8 as is but possible to alter by a few sizes for fit
Measurements: measures 2cm across at broadest
In most case the boxes are for display only but a nice quality modern reproduction box will accompany this piece. The certificate and a valuation will accompany this ring.
