A scarce and wonderful late Victorian Jasper speckled Bloodstone signet style ring in the artistic style ornamented with symmetrical hand worked leafesque shoulders all in 18ct Gold. The design holds much symbolism; of protection as well as prestige; the Bloodstone itself representing strength and courage.
Created by an artist with inspiration taken from the ideals of the Arts Movements holding sway at the time, the style of this wonderful ring is very much of it's time and distinctive in that the movements were a countermovement to the Industrial Revolution that focused on the notion of artisanal craftsmanship, and original pieces of British jewellery of this type and quality are a scarce find.
'Beginning in the 1860s Morris, Ruskin, and their followers advocated the return to skilled craftsmanship and an over-arching aesthetic influenced by traditional styles such as the Gothic. Morris’s interior design firm became famous for its wallpapers, textiles and stained glass.'
A ring such as this a wonderful statement piece. It is a ring size 'O' or '7' but a small adjustment is possible. Inside the band is the full hallmark applied at the Birmingham Assay Office in 1883, and alongside this the maker's mark for Charles Green of Augusta Street in the jewellery quarter.
The stone measures 11.48mm x 9.08mm
The ring measures 13.72mm North to South.
