A symbol of enduring thoughts and affection, dedicated on the reverse to 'Tabitha Dyer ob 8th Aug 1803 aet 65', this antique Georgian mourning ring could is completely handmade. The front panel features a nicely curved rock crystal covered aperture housing a piece of fabric which we imagine to have been from Tabitha's clothing, and it is surrounded by faceted glass 'Jet' cabochons. In unmarked mellow toned 18ct yellow gold, the shoulders feature an elegant hand pierced decoration which gives a classical lightness to the wide tapered band.
The lady in question was Tabitha Dyer of Boyton near Warminster in Wiltshire. We have done a little research and the last picture shows the burial entry for Tabitha, spinster of Boyton in Wiltshire, England.
Over two centuries old, there are slight signs of wear in scuffs to the crystal and a chip to one of the Jets, but commensurate with age of course and certainly doesn't detract from the beauty and sentiment of this poignant piece of personal history.
The finger size is a 'T/9.5/21/61' and cannot be altered.
