A Gothic dream, we have here an unusual and rare four row choker necklace of small hand faceted Whitby Jet beads. Having worked with Whitby Jet over 25 years, we've only ever seen one similar necklace of such small beads. As such it is a rare survivor and we must say that the Jet is of the most superior quality! A fossilised wood of the Araucaria tree which was laid down in ancient Jurassic forests and collected from the beaches around Whitby in Yorkshire, England, being worked in workshops in the town.
Circa 1830's, and entirely hand crafted with a neat and skilled precision, this piece dates earlier than most of the pieces we have handled which were created during the 1870's/80's at the height of the Whitby boom.

Measurements: the shortest row measures 14 inches and each is tapered so as to fit at the curve of the neck beautifully (all has been rethreaded by our clever lady stringer). The clasp is of base metal set with two types of shell and is handmade too.
Most of our rings can be adjusted to fit for free, this can be done on purchase by making a note in the order form if you know the size, or at a later date if it is a gift.
