A handsome antique Gothic Revival period signet ring, set with an oval tablet of smooth, glossy russet coloured Carnelian. In Victorian times these indigenous stones were sourced from the mouths of Scottish rivers, and used in jewellery, with many Scottish Carnelian gemstones coming from Ethiebeaton Quarry near Dundee. The Gothic Revival style of this wonderful ring is very much of it's time and distinctive; with pierced trefoil shoulders ornamented with hand engraved details it references ecclesiastical Gothic architecture and ornament and it is a wonderful example of its type.
The inner band shows assay marks for 15ct gold (a standard solely used in Britain between 1854-1932) applied at the Birmingham Office in 1876 and a maker's mark for 'W.R', indicating William Russell first registered in 1784.
The shoulders taper from 5.5mm to 4mm at the back of the band. A ring size 'P/7.5/16/56', but sizing to fit is possible.
Most of our rings can be adjusted to fit for free, this can be done on purchase by making a note in the order form if you know the size, or at a later date if it is a gift. You can download our handy ring sizing guide here, but don't hesitate to contact us if you need further help with this. If visiting us size adjustments can usually be done in around an hour-ish.
