A darkly glinting romance, this fabulous antique early Victorian bodice ornament with a sturdy brooch fitting to the rear, all original and dating to around 1840. A beautifully striking shape to wear as intended, or on a lapel or in any which way you like as we believe brooches are THE most versatile of all jewels.
Skilfully crafted with glorious 3D shaping, the whole is made with such artistry to express a glorious and opulent glamour which perhaps too saw the beginnings of a Gothic Revival influence. We imagine her worn on a velvet cloak sweeping the darkened, cobbled streets towards an assignation in the late hours..
So much to enjoy in this piece, the hand cut Paste gems (to imitate the glitter of Diamonds) are set in the Georgian style, the larger stones in Silver 'piecrust' mounts; every aspect fashioned by hand. A sense of wonder surrounds this scarce and very special antique jewel.
Stones: cabochon Pyrope Garnet and hand cut Paste 'gems'
Metal: Silver with a Gold 'washed' back to prevent tarnish transfer to clothing. Tested but unmarked
Measurements: 4cm across by 3.5cm
In most case the boxes are for display only but a nice quality modern reproduction box will accompany this piece.
