Dedicated to the memory of 'Ann Colley Ob 21 May 1820 Aet 43'; achingly full of emotion, we imagine that this exquisitely beautiful Georgian mourning ring would most likely have been worn by a daughter or other close relative.
We believe we have found esteemed Ann in the Ann Colley of Chester listed in the Bishop's Transcripts buried at Bruera, St Mary in Cheshire on 25th May 1820.
The design is so totally hand made and poignantly detailed with meaning in every aspect; the central rock crystal covered plaque curves hold a small section of carefully plaited hair and is surrounded by a frame of repousse Gold decorated with miniature Roses (for Love) and then a rim of solemn black glass enamel. The band itself is beautifully tapered to the back and further trimmed with enamel either side of the centre panel ornamented with Acanthus style scrolls and floral motifs.
Metal: The whole in 18ct yellow gold. Tested but unmarked. Weighs 4.94 grams.
Ring Size: It isn't possible to size, but it is a nice average 'P/7.5/16/56'.
