Rare Antique Ruby & Diamond Lover's Eye Locket

We are delighted to present a rare and very romantic beauty, all original, an entirely handmade antique 18ct yellow Gold 'Lover's Eye' locket. An intimate show of attachment, in the late 18th and early 19th century well-to-do lovers and friends would oft exchange miniature portraits, and it is said that the trend for eye portraits began when famously the Prince Regent sent a portrait of just his eye (in order to preserve his anonymity) painted by renowned society miniaturist Richard Cosway to his secret lover Maria Fitzherbert. 

The Rock Crystal eye is set on 18ct Gold and framed by twenty seven hand cut ravishing Rubies and twenty nine glimmery old hand faceted Diamonds, opening from the back to allow a hand painted image to be inserted (we have enclosed a printed image to show the effect). A very desirable and special jewel (and one which we've never seen the like of) capturing a moment in history and one deserving of a treasured place in any collection. 

The chain pictured is an antique 18ct Gold snake style chain which is included with the locket (however without the chain the price is £2,950). The locket measures 3.5cm by 18mm and hangs from a custom bale set with matching gemstones.
