Rare Vintage 10 Carat Natural Zircon Specimen Ring

An intriguing specimen gemstone ring, all hand crafted to show off an incredible natural Zircon very likely found in Sri Lanka. 

This stone was initially a puzzle to us; we found that it tests as quartz on a presidium gem tester but has a much high refractive index... more akin to a Zircon. Highly scintillant and beautifully free of inclusions, we had this stone tested at the GemLab as a zircon.

Sri Lanka is renowned as the Gem Island, with over 2,500 years of gemstone trading history, a huge variety of stones including Zircons, Sapphires, can be found in alluvial riverbed deposits

A so-called 'native' cut; this referring to stones cut in the country where they were mined with simple, traditional equipment. These stones often feature irregular, non-symmetrical facets, an off-center culet, and larger tables, as does this example... along with an bruted or frosted girdle. 

The stone is a beautifully plump oval with deeper shaded colouring to the 'ends', incredibly sparkly and a beautifully flattering shape on the hand, in her mount which was hand crafted and nicely sturdy with a feature scalloped edging to the gallery. 

Stone weight: weighed at 10.12ct

Metal: 18ct yellow Gold, tested but with no marks

Ring Size: 'O' or '7' as is but easy to alter to suit
