In fabulous Gothic style, an antique late Victorian Faith, Hope and Charity Locket fashioned in (what was a new and exciting material at the time, invented by Charles Goodyear in 1839) Vulcanite! A quirky and in some ways very modern looking piece of antique Victorian jewellery, oft worn as mourning pieces in the latter years of the century when 'Mourning' was still practised but the supplies of Whitby Jet were running out, Vulcanite was used to create some fabulous pieces. The highly decorative shield is shaped as a heart and the central section opens to reveal a locket compartment with the emblems of the three virtues of faith, hope, and charity (or love) decorating the central section.
On a fine Silk ribbon, it measures 2.5 inches without the bale.
