A wonderful material, both light and warm to the touch, English Whitby Jet is considered to be the best quality in the world and it was greatly appreciated and very fashionable in the latter 19th century when artisans working in the northern seaside town set up workshops to carve exquisite jewels from this local material.

During the Jurassic period, Arucaria Arucana (The Monkey Puzzle tree) grew in vast forests all over the North Coast of England, and after they died out millions of years ago the wood from them became fossilised and formed what we now know as Whitby Jet. Read our BLOG article about Whitby Jet here.

Set around a hand carved shell cameo (which was likely imported from Italy) of Aristotle, one of the greatly admired thinkers of the ancient Grecian world and so indicating a love of the classics.

Beautifully shaped to fit the wrist closely, each section meets the next perfectly and the whole is elasticated (a fascinating fact that elastic was invented in 1845).

Most of our rings can be adjusted to fit for free, this can be done on purchase by making a note in the order form if you know the size, or at a later date if it is a gift. You can download our handy ring sizing guide here, but don't hesitate to contact us if you need further help with this. If visiting us size adjustments can usually be done in around an hour-ish.
