An interesting choice for the vintage loving bride, this nicely chunky 9ct yellow Gold wedding ring dates to 1945, the closing year of WWII and was made under 'Utility' rules in which only 9ct Gold could be used...
During WWII, the "Utility" rules for gold wedding rings were part of a British government scheme to conserve materials for the war effort. These rules restricted new wedding rings to a maximum of 9ct Gold, a weight of about 3 grams (2 dwts), and a simple, plain design. The rings were marked with a special "utility" symbol to show they were made under government authority.
This example is 2.5mm wide and plumply rounded in section it was made by the renowned W Wilkinson of Skinner Street & Clerkenwell Road, London.
