Such a joyful and distinctive design; circa 1940's, a vintage Art Deco styled pendant in a wonderfully captivating light and lovely style and set throughout with sparkly natural Sapphires; a gorgeous lilac-blue to the centre and glittery white Sapphires adding extra pzazz.
All of 9ct Gold, we believe this piece was likely made in Sri Lanka for the British market as we have seen pieces with similar workship set with indigenous gemstones.
'Sri Lanka is the oldest source of sapphires in the world with Veddas, Sri Lanka's indigenous people, first discovering the coloured pebbles in streams'. Pragnell
Sapphires have been mined in Sri Lanka for nearly 2000 years. Known to ancient traders as Ratna-Dweepa, or Gem Island, Sri Lanka has an abundance of precious gemstone varieties including sapphire, amethyst, topaz, chrysoberyl, zircon and tourmaline. Marco Polo commented on the Sri Lankan sapphire mines during his travels in the late 13th century.
Metal: 9ct Yellow Gold to the fine 18 inch trace chain
Measurements: the pendant measures 4cm excluding the bale
