An interesting vintage Black Onyx seal signet ring hand carved with a fabulous allegorical intaglio image of a Romanesque centurion, a rams head and a vine with a snake twisting around; all symbols of masculine energy and in this case telling the story of Jason and the Golden Fleece: read the story here.

The hero is nude but with a mantle draped over his shoulder, holding a spear and a shield, its rim resting on his shoulder, and wearing a crested helmet, one hand raised before him in a gesture of contemplation, a serpent coiled in the tree, its head raised above the fleece, and a cylindrical altar for Zeus Laphystios in the centre, upon which is the head of the golden-wooled winged ram Chrysomallos, which had rescued Phrixus and brought him to Colchis, where Phrixus then sacrificed it to Zeus...
