Oh, So Splendid & Rare Antique Iberian Diamond Pendant

An unforgettable and significant antique Diamond pendant; which we believe to be of Iberian origin and dating to the early 19th century. The belle of the ball; the whole creation is lavishly studded with old hand cut natural Diamonds; each a unique and magical glitterball in its own right with both historical interest and richesse. 

Spanish "Isabelino" period jewellery (circa 1844-1868), a style flourishing in the 19th century under Queen Isabella II, is characterized by ornate, romantic designs with floral motifs and precious gemstones. 

We imagine once the property of a well-to-do socialite, (and worn to many fascinating balls) this impressively sparkly antique pendant is based upon the style of a 'bodice' ornament which had been fashionable across Europe for centuries.  

Expertly hand fabricated in fine Silver over a backing of 18ct Gold, it is articulated in three places and so has a mesmerising scintillatingly glitter'd movement when worn. We are entirely enraptured!

A point of interest is that some of the Diamonds have been recycled from an earlier time as they date in cutting style to the 17th century being taller and more angular (in particular the top stone to the lowest section). She was likely worn upon a Silk or velvet ribbon close to the throat in her day but we have paired her with a vintage 9ct Gold chain for practicality. 

Metal: Silver with a high carat Gold backing (designed to protect fine clothing from tarnish marks)

Stones: antique hand cut natural Diamonds judged with a Schindler gauge in the setting as totalling at least four carats.

Measurements: 2.5 inches from the top of the bale. The vintage 9ct Gold belcher link chain we have paired it with in the images measures 18 inches but the open links allow it to be worn at varying lengths.

In most case the boxes are for display only but a nice quality modern reproduction box will accompany this piece.
